Declarations of Contemporary
|
"This exhibition is a tool for developing different expressions of contemporary, ultimately pushing people to seek their own definition. By bringing together eleven artists with individual interests, we challenge the notion that being contemporary is a solid state. Instead, we propose that being contemporary is an ever evolving, emergent process." - Declarations of Contemporary, Curatorial Statement
Fabiola was part of the curatorial team for Declarations of Contemporary, an exhibition presented at the Hairpin Arts Center in April 2016. Exploring what it means to be part of the contemporary, the show featured eleven Chicago-based artists: Annie Chang; Beatriz Guzman Velasquez; Brian Driscoll; Dana Nechmad; Jeane Cohen; John Stevens; Joshua Andrew Hollie; Madeleine Finley; Mary Saran; Yan Zhou; Zhiyuan Yang.
The exhibition launched #declare to which artists and visitors responded with their own definition of what being part of the contemporary means. The collection is available on the exhibition's website at https://saicdeclare.wixsite.com/contemporary
